With the end of the season approaching, the analysis for the 2022 NHL Draft is starting to surface, as we now have a little more data on the draft.

It's important to mention that the picture is always subject to change and that nothing is definitive.

However, ten months later, the Sportsnet network has redone the top-10 of this draft, and the least we can say is that it is a real slap in the face of the Habs.

For one thing, Juraj Slafkovsky is no longer ranked first, he is now ahead of American center Logan Cooley, who was selected third by the Arizona Coyotes.

The big Slovakian is now ranked second, the only player to play in the NHL on a regular basis.

However, where it hurts even more for the Tricolore is with their second first round selection. The CH chose another Slovakian forward, who was a surprise to many, over a more consensual choice in Jiri Kulich.

A few months later, everything indicates that this decision could turn into a nightmare for the Montreal organization.

Mesar has been disappointing in the OHL this season, failing to maintain a points per game average. For an 18 year old, this is clearly not good enough. Furthermore, he has been even more disappointing in the playoffs, posting no points in three games, despite his team's dominance.

Kulich, meanwhile, is now a top-10 player in the 2022 draft, having a stellar season in the AHL at only 18 years old. He has 22 goals and 44 points in 58 games.

Fortunately, the Habs seem to have made two very good moves in the second round with their selections of Owen Beck and Lane Hutson.

We'll have to wait a few more years before we can judge the CH's work in the first round, but for the moment, it doesn't look good for the organization.
