At the beginning of the summer, just before the draft, there were a lot of rumours about a possible trade for the Canadiens' 5th overall pick. Kent Hughes had openly stated that he was open to receiving offers to trade him.

However, we now know the story and the CH selected David Reinbacher with the 5th overall pick. In fact, there were no trades in the entire NHL during the first round.

Speaking on BPM Sports, tipster Pierre LeBrun confided that there really were talks between the Habs and Predators for the 5th pick. In his opinion, Yaroslav Askarov could have landed in Montreal.

I can confirm that the two teams (Montreal and Nashville) have spoken. (for the 5th overall pick) [...] I definitely think Askarov was at the heart of the offers."

- Pierre LeBrun

We're talking about one of the most promising young goalies in the world. He's only 21, but he's knocking on the doors of the league. His arrival in Montreal would have changed the face of the franchise, making him the perfect successor to Carey Price.
