Monday night ended in shocking fashion for the NHL, with Jamie Drysdale and a future second-round pick traded for former No. 5 overall pick Cutter Gauthier, and it certainly had an effect on the NHL.

Trevor Zegras addresses his best friend being traded

While we often look at the on-ice effect that a deal like this has, we often overlook the personal aspect, and after the trade, we saw just how personal it can be when Trevor Zegras was asked about his friend Drysdale being moved.

»We even got injured together too. It was good to push each other. Getting on the ice with the injuries that we had were tough. To know that somebody was going through similar stuff that you were definitely made it a little bit easier. Getting your conditioning and that stuff back kind of sucks so it's nice to look over and see somebody grinding on the bike next to you, so that definitely helps."

Players understand that it's a business, but when you hear about things like this and players getting each other through injury and bonding, it's certainly tough to see them broken up.

The Ducks get much better with the acquisition of Gauthier

There's plenty of controversy right now surrounding the way Cutter Gauthier got himself out of Philadelphia, but one thing is for sure and that is the depth of the Ducks young forward's is elite.

Drysdale certainly had potential, but the Ducks already have several defenseman ready to fill a role in the NHL, so when you have a chance to add Gauthier to the group of Troy Terry, Zegras, Leo Carlsson and Mason MacTavish, it's a no-brainer, but that doesn't make it any easier on his teammates and friends.
