The Edmonton Oilers have been eyeing off blue line help for months now, and with the trade deadline nearing, one Oilers insider has made a massive declaration.

Edmonton to do business with the Calgary Flames?

According to Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic, the Edmonton Oilers are about to do the unthinkable and make a trade with their bitter rival the Calgary Flames.
"They will acquire Chris Tanev: As hated rivals, the Oilers and Flames are almost never trading partners. Steve Staios heading south in 2010 was the first deal consummated between the two teams. Since then, Ladislav Smid and Laurent Brossoit served as the main pieces in one swap, and Milan Lucic and James Neal changed places in the other — a case of flipping underperforming veteran wingers with bloated contracts."

The two teams haven't made many trades in the history of their franchises, but with Chris Tanev seemingly on the move from Calgary, he would be just the boost that the Oilers need to push themselves into contender status.

Can Chris Tanev make the Oilers a genuine contender?

While Tanev may not have the offensive game that many top defenseman these days posses, but what he does bring is grit, toughness and leadership, and he has always been known to improve the play of his blue line partner.
Tanev reportedly has a no-trade list with 10 teams on it, and while it's not clear at this point whether Edmonton are a part of that list or not, the chance to chase a Stanley Cup may make Tanev want to join his bitter rival before he hits free agency this summer.
