The NHL is not exactly known as a league that is particularly well run. In fact, many believe the league has the worst leadership of all the major North-American sports leagues. That does not necessarily mean the league is biased against certain teams, but it could be possible.

Leafs Fans Make Case For Bias With Treatment Of Morgan Rielly

Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly became the subject of heated debate over the weekend when he cross-checked Senators forward Ridley Greig following an empty-net goal.

Most fans seemed to agree that the play was unacceptable, but it did not necessarily warrant a massive suspension. A simple 2-4 games would suffice. However, the 29-year-old will be attending an in-person hearing tomorrow, implying that his suspension will be much longer than that. Whether or not that level of punishment is warranted is another topic of debate in itself, but based on past rulings, it would seem not. One Leafs analyst has taken this to mean that the the league is biased against the Leafs.

Fans Debate Severity Of Rielly Cross Check On Social media

This comes as part of a broader discussion of the play in general. Many fans have argued that the cross check crossed a line and that an in-person hearing is part of an acceptable punishment.

Morgan Rielly should be suspended for 10 games. This late and illegal hit reminds me a lot of Dale Hunter's hit on Pierre Turgeon in the playoffs.

However, other have argued that the in-person hearing is going a bit to far. We have already heard from noted Leafs fan Steve Dangle on this issue, but he is not the only one that thinks this way.

Tomorrow will be a big day for Leafs fans as we should learn the outcome of Rielly's in-person meeting. Be sure to stay tuned for that important update as soon as it it made public.
