The Rangers were not particularly happy with Andrei Svechnikov tonight after he tripped Igor Shesterkin behind the net. Following the play, Shesterkin went after Svechnikov himself, trying to get involved in the ensuing scrum.

On the play, the puck was rimmed around the boards. As such, Shesterkin came out to play it, which he did successfully. However, Svechnikov then came in to pout pressure on him and made no effort to get out of his way, ultimately tripping up the Rangers netminder, who went flying into the air rather emphatically.

SVECHNIKOV TOOK A RUN AT IGOR AND SHESTERKIN CAME OUT OF THE NET TO MEET HIM 😱

The play was obviously a penalty, even from the angle where the net was in the way. The officials did review it, possibly looking at a major penalty for interference, put stuck with the original call of 2 minutes for tripping.

They running goalies now in New York 😂

Needless to say, Andrei Svechnikov is not the most popular man in New York right now. Hurricanes reporter Walt Ruff pointed this out after the play. It will be interesting to see how the Rangers respond, both tonight and throughout the rest of the series.

I think Andrei Svechnikov just became public enemy number one in New York.

The #Canes are headed to their first penalty kill of the night, as he goes off for tripping.
