Brett Sutter, son of former legend in Calgary, Darryl Sutter, has announced his retirement from professional hockey after 17 seasons. Brett Sutter captained the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL for the last two seasons. He is not leaving the game completely now that he's retired, as he has taken on the role of assistant coach with the team. «Saying goodbye to playing isn't easy. The game has treated my family and I so well for so long, but the opportunity to stay within the organization that my family loves, makes this transition easier.

The Flames drafted Brett back in 2005, 179th overall. During that time, his father Darryl, a legend around the city of Calgary, was the coach and GM of the Flames, and he was the one who made the pick and called out his son's name at the draft. The Sutter family has a rich history of hockey success. Five Sutter brothers have played over 400 games in the NHL, and some later took on front office jobs as well, such as Darryl. Brett did issue a heartfelt goodbye to the fans. Nothing fancy, just like my game. Thanks to my beautiful family for the endless support. Every coach & staff member along the way. Incredible fans on every stop. The best friends in the world. Lastly, and what I'll miss the most, my teammates. There was never a bad day at the rink. I'll miss the coffee's, laughs, win songs, road trips. All of it. It was the best 17 years I could've asked for. Thanks again, and see you all at the rink soon. Love Cap ❤️

The most famous Sutter moment that Calgary Flames fans will remember best is when Brett scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game back in 2008.
