In somewhat of a surprising move, the Colorado Avalanche have placed fan-favorite veteran centerman Chris Wagner on waivers today. Chris Wagner has been known as one of the most physical and resilient forwards in the NHL. He is highly recognized for being among the hardest hitters and grungiest players on the ice. Wagner was born on May 27, 1991, in Walpole, Massachusetts, and was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks during the 2010 draft. It wasn't until the 2014-15 season that he made his debut, a starting point to his professional journey in the league. After first playing with the Ducks, Wagner's career would take him to teams such as the Boston Bruins, and into his current team with the Colorado Avalanche. In Boston, he adopted the Mayor of Walpole moniker, given to him for his unbridled forechecking and willingness to block shots with his body, a player the fanbase loved. Wagner is known for a depth forward role, as a specialist in penalty killing, bringing energy onto the ice, and hitting hard to change the momentum of the game.

The Avalanche just recently placed Wagner on waivers, meaning within a 24-hour window, he can be claimed by another team or go back down to the AHL. This likely occurred because Colorado activated Valeri Nichushkin off of suspension prior to tonight's game against the Washington Capitals. With a roster spot needing to be opened, Wagner was the unfortunate odd man out. Wagner has played 12 games with the Avalanche this season, scoring a single goal. Should he go unclaimed, he will report back to the Colorado Eagles, the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, where he can continue his physical edge and tenacity on the ice.
