The Columbus Blue Jackets are open to trading Patrik Laine, but to this point, they've received a shocking lack of interest, according to their General Manager. After weeks of speculation, trade interest in Patrik Laine is heating up. At least that's what we would have thought after he was released from the NHLPA's Player Assistance Program, with many teams reportedly interested. However, General Manager Don Waddell has now revealed the exact opposite, opening up on the trade speculation surrounding Laine, revealing that thus far, only one team has officially reached out. At this time of the year, people are less responsive. So, I don't really know. I think it's going to play out for a while.

Waddell would eventually admit that's potentially his fault, as he revealed that if he wanted to retain a significant amount of money on Laine, he likely would have been moved by now, but he doesn't yet want to do that. We might end up eating some money. If I wanted to eat half, I could've traded him by now, but that's not my first choice. At 26-years of age, Laine has an incredibly bright future ahead after some productive years already, and with the Montreal Canadiens likely still interested, it's expected that he will still be moved ahead of the 2024/25 season as he looks for a fresh start after struggling in Columbus.
