The Edmonton Oilers are poised for another run at the Stanley Cup Final next year, but one issue could stand in their way: the roster's average age.

ESPN's John Buccigross has highlighted that the Oilers are one of the league's oldest teams, particularly among their forwards.

Recent NHL history shows that no team has won with multiple forwards over the age of 32, and the Oilers have several veteran players in that boat.

Most of them won't play critical roles. This is drawing lines in the sand

Corey Perry, Adam Henrique, and Derek Ryan past this age. Zach Hyman, Evander Kane, and Jeff Skinner are in year 32.

I mean this is 4 of the 9 who would be over 32 by the time they won the cup. Arvidsson and RNH are currently 31 but would be 32 by the time they won making up 6 of 9. Thats 6 critical roles. Perry, Janmark and Kane (if hes still on the team) would be the other 3 and are debatable

Mattias Janmark, Victor Arvidsson, and even Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will hit this milestone mark next season.

In the last 9 years, no Stanley Cup champion has had more than 2 forwards over the age of 32. If the Edmonton Oilers win the Cup next year, they will have 9.

Recognizing the need for a younger roster, Oilers president Jeff Jackson might prioritize targeting younger players to ensure the team's long-term success.
