Edmonton has recalled top prospect Matthew Savoie, and it is expected that he will make his Oilers debut on the team's upcoming road trip.

There will be a new face joining the Edmonton Oilers. The team's top prospect, Matthew Savoie, skated with the team on Tuesday and will see game action on the team's next five-game road trip, head coach Kris Knoblauch said.

"If he was down there and was playing poorly and wasn't one of the better players every single night, we wouldn't be pulling him up here," Knoblauch said.

"The reports that we've had for quite a while is that he's been playing well and getting better every time, and that's in many areas of the game. We're very looking forward to seeing him play."

Savoie was traded from the Buffalo Sabres this summer for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio. He's spent the whole season to this point in the AHL, recording 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists) in 45 games with the Bakersfield Condors.

Savoie only played one game with Buffalo last season

The 21-year-old winger made his NHL debut with Buffalo last season but only played in one game. Knoblauch did not say when Savoie will make his debut for the Oilers.

"A little bit of a slow start adjusting to pro hockey but I've been playing really well the last couple weeks. Feeling really confident & good about my game."

The Oilers' six-game road trip begins with a back-to-back Saturday and Sunday game and includes visits to Philadelphia, Washington, Tampa Bay, Florida, and Carolina.

Savoie was thrilled at the chance to play for the Oilers, whenever that would be. Edmonton is now deadlocked with Minnesota for the Pacific Division lead, both teams having picked up 72 points in 55 games.

"For me, it's really exciting just to see where I could potentially play and where I could be, and it just brings more excitement to my eyes and makes me want to continue pushing myself as hard as I can to get to that next level and be a contributor here," Savoie said.

Initially selected ninth overall by Buffalo in the 2022 NHL Draft, Savoie will be looking to make an impression with his new club.
