Edmonton captain Connor McDavid has just surpassed a milestone held by Wayne Gretzky, which is that he has now played more regular-season games as an Oiler.

The Edmonton Oilers dropped their fourth in a row Tuesday night, 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena. Leon Draisaitl had Edmonton's only goal with a power-play marker at 11:53 of the first period.

His 43rd of the season was behind Connor McDavid's 698th assist in his 697th NHL game, two assists shy of making him the third-fastest player in league history to reach 700.

Tampa Bay fought back quickly, with Michael Eyssimont tying the game 1:18 later.

The goal sparked a stretch of four consecutive for the Lightning, with Brandon Hagel, Victor Hedman, and Nick Paul each tallying. Nikita Kucherov contributed two assists, and goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 23 saves for the win.

"We're in a bit of a hole right now as a team, and it's about resiliency. It's about sticking with it," defenceman Mattias Ekholm said. "We're gonna have to dig one out here sooner or later and I thought we got off to a good start, but I think at times we're giving them a little bit too easy of offence."

Evan Bouchard extended his point streak to eight games

Stuart Skinner stopped 33 of 37 shots for Edmonton, and Evan Bouchard had the lone assist on the team, extending his point streak to eight contests (1G, 7A).

McDavid officially surpassed Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky's career regular-season games played for the franchise, reaching game No. 697, as 'The Great One' had played in 696.

Now at 34-20-4, the Oilers continue their East Coast swing Thursday night in Sunrise, where they face the Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena for the first time since their Game 7 brawl in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.
