With the NHL Trade Deadline approaching NHL insider Elliotte Friedman spoke to Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now to discuss Edmonton's plans. Over the last several months the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to goaltenders both elite and backup as fans and media try to predict what moves they will make. With the deadline a month away insider Elliotte Friedman spoke to Edmonton Oilers reporter Bob Stauffer about the team's need for a goaltender and what other needs the Oilers could look to fill before the deadline passes.
Elliotte Friedman Reveals A Surprising Need For The Edmonton Oilers
During the interview, Friedman laid out what he expects to be the Oilers' plans for adding at the trade deadline. Shockingly he continues to believe that goaltender is not a priority for the Oilers and will go unaddressed. The best information I have is it's unlikely they do anything in net. Not impossible but unlikely as of now. With goaltender off the table for now Friedman believes the deadline additions will come in two places the first being rush defense. I think that the number one thing they are looking at is adding a defenseman to help with shutting down rush chances. Then Friedman spoke about the continued chemistry issues between the forwards after the additions of players like Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson have not paid off how many were hoping they would. There could be a chemistry issue with the forward group. We are almost 60 games in at this point you look at it and say do the pieces match?

With this new information, it sounds as though the Oilers will look to add an impact forward and a 2nd to 3rd pair defenseman at the deadline to round out their lineup heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As Friedman and other trusted sources release more reports regarding the Oilers' deadline plans we will pass them along to you.
