Today a new interview with a former defenseman from the Vancouver Canucks has revealed that the organizational dysfunction has been around much longer than anyone knows.

The Vancouver Canucks continue to be in the news this week as problems between the organization and star forward Elias Pettersson continue to fester.

These organizational issues have been going on for months starting with the problems between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson and now continuing with Pettersson solo.

This evening a new interview has surfaced with Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis who spoke about the unfortunate and messy ending to his time with the organization several years ago.

Former Canucks Defenseman Reveals How His Time In Vancouver Came To An End

In a new interview with The Province former NHL defenseman Dan Hamhuis spoke about his time in Vancouver and how it came to an end.

According to Hamhuis, he was hoping to extend his contract and finish his career with the Canucks but was told by the organization and General Manager Jim Benning that they would not be re-signing him.

I wanted to stay. I made that well known to our management at the time, and unfortunately they didn't want to make that happen and wanted to go in different directions, Hamhuis says. It's kind of too bad. I felt like I was bleeding blue, and that wearing that jersey and everything it represented meant a lot to me.

Hamhuis went on to admit that he was surprised when he got the news that the Canucks and Benning were not going to bring him back.

In a way, I guess I was a bit surprised. I felt like I had proven myself as a 'you-know-what-you're-going-to-get' steady player and a good guy in the room and community.

After his time with the Canucks Hamhuis would go on to spend two seasons each with the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators before retiring in 2020.

As time goes on it will be interesting to see if history repeats itself with Elias Pettersson who continues to reaffirm he wants to be a Canuck but his future with the team gets more bleak by the day.
