During a new episode of The Grapevine Podcast host Don Cherry spoke about which Canadian team he sees as the Stanley Cup Finals favorite. After making a case regardingOilers forward Corey Perry making the Hockey Hall of Fame Don Cherry is back again with another controversial take involving the team. While not in the public spotlight anymore Cherry continues to let his hockey opinion be known through his podcast called The Grapevine. This week's episode focused on the race for the playoffs and who the hockey legend believes will be the favorite to take home the Cup come June. In Cherry's opinion, it will come down to two iconic Canadian franchises the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs but of course only one can win.
Don Cherry Reveals Who He Believes Will Win The 2025 Stanley Cup
Cherry was asked during the podcast episode who he would bet on currently to win the Stanley Cup the Edmonton Oilers or Toronto Maple Leafs. In his response, Cherry confirms that he is on the Toronto Maple Leafs bandwagon over the defending Western Conference Champion Edmonton Oilers and that if he had 100 he would bet it on the Maple Leafs. The Oilers are plus 65 (+650), yeah. And the Leafs are plus 13 (+1300). I would take the Leafs, yep, Cherry said. Cherry's son then chimes in and goes against his dad, confirming he would take the Winnipeg Jets to win the Stanley Cup, backed by Connor Hellebuyck's play. If I was betting I think I would take the Jets at 14/1. That's the thing you could take the Leafs or the Jets if you're betting but they both flame out in the playoffs.

Both members of the Cherry family are backing Canada to finally break the drought of Canadian teams winning the Stanley Cup. With the Stanley Cup Playoffs still months away there is plenty of time for Cherry and his son to change their minds but for now the Maple Leafs and the Jets have the support of the hockey icon and his son.
