Today a former Vancouver Canucks forward who played over 200 games with the team has decided to end his hockey career after almost two decades in the game. Reports are coming in this evening that former Vancouver Canucks forward Loui Eriksson has confirmed he is retiring from professional hockey. Eriksson spent a total of 16 seasons in the NHL and played 5 of those seasons for the Vancouver Canucks in the 2010s.

Eriksson began his career with the Dallas Stars in 2006 after being a 2nd round pick in the 2003 NHL Draft and earning his way to the league. He would go on to spend the first 7 seasons of his career in Dallas reaching a career high of 73 points in 2011 with the Stars. At the age of 28, he would end up being traded to the Boston Bruins in the deal that would send Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars. Eriksson would then spend three seasons in Boston before becoming a free agent and signing with the Vancouver Canucks.
Remembering Loui Eriksson's Time With The Canucks
During Eriksson's five seasons with the Canucks he would play 252 games and tally just 90 points as he stumbled into the back half of his career from ages 31 to 35 with the team. While his tenure with the Canucks was not successful he was then involved in a move that would set the team up for success in the future. Eriksson was sent in 2021 from Vancouver to the Arizona Coyotes in a blockbuster deal that landed the Canucks Conor Garland and Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

While Ekman-Larsson was a bit of an up-and-down player for the Canucks Garland has been a staple piece of the top-six and figures to be a key contributor if the team is going to be successful in the playoffs this season. Despite Eriksson's lack of success in Vancouver overall his career was an incredible success playing 1,050 NHL games and amassing 613 total points in his career. As of now it is unknown what Eriksson plans to do in retirement but regardless we wish him all the best as he continues into the next phase of his career and life.
