Today a new comment from an Oilers analyst has confirmed the major reason why the team is afraid to make a trade for a new starting goalie during the season. Earlier this month the Edmonton Oilers were linked to star goaltender Thatcher Demko. With many fans hoping for a major upgrade to the goaltending depth of the Oilers heading into the back half of the season reporters have been trying to figure out whether or not the team is considering a move for a goalie at the deadline. Tonight a new report from Oilers analyst Louie DeBrusk has revealed the reasons why the team might be hesitant to trade for a goaltender at the deadline due to the great chemistry their team currently has.
Analyst Believes The Oilers are Afraid To Make A Trade Shaking Up Their Chemistry
During a new segment, DeBrusk spoke about the struggles that Stuart Skinner had a couple of nights ago against the Colorado Avalanche. While discussing what the Oilers might do to get the goaltending situation solved he believes a trade to replace Skinner as the starter is not the answer. I think it could add a little bit of conflict in there. If it doesn't go well, then you've shown your number one right now - that you have signed on a deal that's very, very friendly - that we don't believe in you, and we're going in another way. You do that mid-season, I don't know how that's going to work with the team.

With Skinner having his ups and downs many want to find a replacement who can be more consistent when the games matter most. However, when looking at Skinner's overall performance there aren't many players the Canucks could bring in on the trade market that could make a significant upgrade. Unless the Oilers can land a player like John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks it likely is not worth the risk of rocking the boat and upsetting your key players that are already in the locker room. As the deadline comes closer all eyes will be on the Oilers to see if they trust in Skinner or look for outside help via trade.
