Today a new report has started speculation that the Edmonton Oilers could be interested in trading for a defenseman from the Buffalo Sabres. The Edmonton Oilers defensive unit has struggled immensely this season to keep up with the offense. As a result of the defensive struggles, there have been calls for GM Stan Bowman to trade for a defenseman to give the Edmonton Oilers a spark. With this in mind, a new report speculated that Buffalo Sabres defenseman Henri Jokiharju could be a good fit. Early in the season for the Buffalo Sabres Henri Jokiharju has found himself on the outside of the lineup looking in. He along with fellow defenseman Mattias Samuelsson could be prime trade bait if they continue to be scratched.

With the Sabres on a winning streak as both players are out of the lineup mass speculation has begun trying to find a new home for them.
Henri Jokiharju could fit exactly what the Oilers need
Henri Jokiharju is still a young right-handed defenseman who once was a first-round pick. Now Henri Jokiharju is on an expiring contract and likely to not re-sign with the Buffalo Sabres. This has led to the speculation that he could be a good fit in Edmonton without giving up too much.

The Edmonton Oilers obviously do not have a lot of salary cap space this season. However, with Henri Jokiharju making just over 3 million dollars they could fit him under the salary cap if Buffalo retains some money. The Edmonton Oilers and Buffalo Sabres already have a history together when earlier this summer Stan Bowman and Kevyn Adams made a trade sending Ryan McLeod and Ty Tullio to Buffalo in exchange for prospect Matt Savoie.

If the Edmonton Oilers are hoping to find a new defenseman to round out their struggling group Henri Jokiharju could be a good fit. It will all come down to how much it is going to cost in the end.
