Today during his latest press conference Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch spoke to the media and called out several players. AfterCoach Knoblauch shared his frustration for another loss against the Washington Capitals yesterday he expanded upon his disappointment today. The Oilers since returning from the 4 Nations Face-Off break have struggled to adjust and play winning hockey and overall looked like an inferior team compared to their expectations. This morning after practice Knoblauch spoke to the media and placed the blame for the recent losses squarely on the shoulders of a few players.
Kris Knoblauch Calls Out His Players After Loss To The Washington Capitals
During the press conference, Knoblauch was asked what has gone wrong over the last couple of games for the Oilers. He began with a call to action urging every player on the team to step up and work together to pull the team out of this hole. We need to put the last couple games behind us, learn from them I just think that everyone needs to get a little bit better. One guy's not going to turn it around collectively we've got to be much better. Then Knoblauch made a divisive statement placing much of the blame for these losses on everyone but Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. We're obviously getting big contributions from Leon and Connor, but a lot of other guys playing well, and just right now, everyone's just not playing up to their potential. This statement from Knoblauch feels like a plea for the Oilers' other stars and depth players to take the level of their game up a notch to try and match the level of McDavid and Draisaitl. Of course, this is easier said than done as McDavid and Draisaitl's talent are on another level compared to their teammates.
