The NHL has released their three stars of the week, and one of the Edmonton Oilers players has been named as the first star of the league in a surprising fashion. Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl was joined by Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon and Ottawa Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark as the NHL's stars of the week.

Leon Draisaitl had three goals and six assists for nine points to lead the Oilers to their third straight win. Those wins gave Edmonton its fifth straight victory overall and catapulted the Oilers to third in the ultra-competitive Pacific Division. Of his three, two were game-winning tallies, really hammering home just how critical Draisaitl has been down the stretch. Entering Monday, the German icon paced the league in goals with 22 as one of the more consistent players in the NHL. It was a no-brainer that he was named the first star.

Meanwhile, Nathan MacKinnon was every bit as brilliant, recording a point on nine of Colorado's 12 goals during those three victories. The reigning league MVP again served in a workhorse capacity in driving the Avalanche attack, recording four goals and five assists. With his elite playmaking and consistent scoring through the start of the week, MacKinnon jumped to the top of the NHL leaderboard with 50 points. Meanwhile, Linus Ullmark anchored the Ottawa Senators with his stellar performance in the crease. During the week, Ullmark shut out 88 of 91 shots, good for a perfect 3-0-0 record. He compiled a 0.99 goals-against average and a .967 save percentage, including a shutout. The efforts not only helped the Senators go a perfect week but also bumped them into the final wild-card position in the Eastern Conference, further underlining how vital Ullmark has been to the team's success.
