The Edmonton Oilers have been operating under CEO Jeff Jackson this off-season, and now they may be set to make their first big mistake in months. After an up and down tenure in Edmonton, GM Ken Holland and the Oilers parted way after their Stanley Cup Finals loss, with Jeff Jackson, team CEO making the moves this summer as the team loads up for another chase for the Cup. Despite drawing acclaim for the moves he made, Jackson has no interest in the role permanently, and now, the team are on the verge of their first mistake this summer as a front runner has emerged for the GM role. Stan Bowman & @EdmontonOilers CEO Jeff Jackson have chatted about the open GM position the #Oilers have, with the great work Stan Bowman has done with the @RespectGroup & all the other good work he's done a road back to the @NHL is differently coming very soon. Could it be with the #LetsGoOilers ? We shall see but it's trending that way from our understanding.

Bowman was of course the General Manager of the Chicago Blackhawks during the controversial Kyle Beach incident, and while he may have changed and improved since being banned from the NHL, Oilers fans don't believe that gives him the right to be the GM of their team. i'm like 90% sure that the Oilers are hiring Bowman. there has just been too much talk from a lot of legitimate sources for me to not think that it's inevitable. this team will soon realize that they are making a tremendous mistake.

Listen - if Bowman is actually putting in the effort to learn and grow from his mistake, then good for him. I wish him the best on his journey. That still doesn't mean he should be GM of the Oilers though.

Time will tell whether or not the team go through with the hiring, but if they do, expect plenty of backlash from Oilers fans.
