Jeff Skinner has already been warned once this season for diving, and now that he has done it again, the league has fined the Oilers player $2,000. The NHL fined Oilers forward Jeff Skinner $2,000 for embellishment in the November 23 game against the New York Rangers. It's Skinner's second of the season after an October 22 incident against the Carolina Hurricanes.

There was some criticism over the incident, that players needed to be fined much more strictly in hopes of deterring it from happening again.

Despite the controversy, Edmonton dominated, taking the game 6-2. Connor McDavid had a pair of goals and an assist, while Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard each had a goal and an assist. Vasily Podkolzin and Darnell Nurse scored the other Edmonton goals, as Mattias Janmark and Connor Brown each had two assists. Goaltender Stuart Skinner made 33 saves in the winning effort. The Rangers' Jonathan Quick made 34 saves, a spectacular 18 in the first period alone. But Edmonton finally broke through late in the opening frame. Vasily Podkolzin snapped a 42-game scoreless drought at 17:34, his first as an Oiler. Darnell Nurse added a shorthanded goal just before the buzzer, his sixth career shorthanded goal, in his return from a concussion scare caused by Toronto's Ryan Reaves. Poor Jonathan Quick, though, coming in with one of the best career records against Edmonton, 25-12-6 with a 2.18 GAA and.921 SV%, simply had no answer against this barnstorming of offense that was the Oilers. In the end, it would be Edmonton's night, sour-tainted only by that diving incident on Skinner. A deserved fine, maybe serving a touch of closure for any thoughts of revisiting similar actions again.
