The Stanley Cup Playoffs have been dominated by questionable calls from referees recently several members of the Edmonton Oilers including Mattias Ekholm spoke about this.

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are supposed to be about high quality and intense hockey. Unfortunately in both Conference Finals matchups the referees continue to be a major part of the storyline. Edmonton Oilers veteran Mattias Ekholm spoke about the particular disparity in penalty calls during their series against the Dallas Stars.
"It's hard, it's physical, it's playoff hockey out there, it just seems to be we need to kill more than we get power plays," said Ekholm. "Whether that's just the way it has happened or not I don't know."

Instead of just throwing out blanket statements Mattias Ekholm brought up a particular situation where the same type of hit was called two different ways in the same game.
"I looked at that Darnell [Nurse] penalty today and 5 minutes later I get cross-checked right in the same spot," admitted Ekholm.

Mattias Ekholm is not the only one furious about how these games are being called. Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch also spoke about the missed calls.
"The NHL sometimes the standard gets changed a little bit," admitted Knoblauch. "They would definitely want to make sure its a penalty, in the regular season maybe some things get let go. That's obviously unfortunate for us, we've got a very good power play and we win a lot of games on the power play."

The Edmonton Oilers are not alone in these frustrations last night the Florida Panthers faced a similar issue and their head coach Paul Maurice had to comment on the officiating.
The NHL needs to get their referees under control and back to understanding how to keep control of their games. At this point, they are missing at least one major call in every game and that cannot happen. The Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars will play Game 3 tonight this will be our next opportunity to see if officiating has improved.
