Superstar NHL goaltender John Gibson has been at the center of many trade rumors lately, and today he stated interest in joining solely the Edmonton Oilers. TSN reporter and hockey insider Pierre LeBrun is reporting that Anaheim Ducks all-star goaltender John Gibson would have some interest in joining the Edmonton Oilers. Gibson has a modified no-trade clause, but my understanding is he would consider the Oilers, who came one win short of the Cup last season. - Pierre LeBrun, The Athletic While the idea of bringing in a high-end netminder like Gibson to solidify the Oilers' Stanley Cup hopes may be an enticing one, LeBrun reports the Oilers are unlikely to pursue it.

The team seems content leaving things as they have been and continuing with Stuart Skinner as their starter. One reason why the Oilers are happy with Skinner is his reasonable $2.6 million salary frees up more room for acquiring or keeping the stars this roster needs. That type of trade would have a lot of moving parts and affect their cap closer to March 7, I suspect the blue line will require an addition. - Pierre LeBrun, The Athletic The Oilers need reinforcements on the back end, particularly a right-handed, shut-down type of defenceman. Still, Skinner also has his dark cloud, like the performance against the Minnesota Wild last night in a 5-2 loss. While it's probably premature to move on from Skinner entirely, general manager Stan Bowman does have an interesting decision on his hands. Adding Gibson, though he has a fairly high salary, is an option if the Ducks retain some of the cost. But it would come with a great deal of financial risk.
