Four players hit waivers today, including two who were former Oilers, one being 4th overall pick Jesse Puljujarvi, as teams gear up for a busy trade deadline.

The Florida Panthers have waived Jesse Puljujarvi following signing him to a two-way contract, TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston reports. The deal is for the rest of the season at the prorated value of $775,000.

Puljujarvi suited up for seven games with the Panthers AHL affiliate Charlotte Checkers and collected three assists.

He began the 2024-25 campaign with the Pittsburgh Penguins and contributed nine points in 26 games before being waived on Dec. 30 and assigned to the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

He was placed on unconditional waivers on Feb. 8 to free up space for a mutual termination of the contract.

Originally selected fourth overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2016 NHL Draft, Puljujarvi spent six years with the Oilers before being dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2022-23 campaign.

The Alvkarleby, Sweden, native has suited up for 382 NHL games, posting 57 goals and 127 points for the Oilers, Hurricanes, and Penguins.

Another former Oiler, Jordan Oesterle, who started his career with Edmonton, was also placed on waivers by the Boston Bruins.

Oesterle only has one goal and five assists in 22 games this season, and a career total of 92 points in the 393 games that he's played in. He was not drafted by any team.

The two other players placed on waivers are Jakub Vrana of the Washington Capitals and Christian Fischer of the Detroit Red Wings.

Teams now have less than 24 hours to put in a claim for them, so we will see which of these players have a new home by tomorrow.
