Vancouver Canucks star forward Elias Pettersson opened up about his struggles this season, apologizing for taking it out on the media.

The Vancouver Canucks have had a miserable season, and a big part of the reason why has been the struggles of Elias Pettersson.

Currently, the team technically is outside the playoffs after back-to-back loses, dropping behind the Calgary Flames in the wild card standings.

Pettersson has just 11 goals and 35 points in 54 games this year. It is a far cry from his 89-point season last year, and even further from the 102-point campaign two years ago.

The 26-year-old Swede opened up about his season today, revealing that he feels like he has let himself and his team down with his poor play.

"I'll just be honest, I haven't been the way I want to be this year. I haven't played to expectation I have on myself, the franchise has on me. I wish we had more wins, I wish I had played a lot better but can't dwell on that anymore."

He added that he is focused on the remainder of the regular season, and is hoping to play his best hockey of the year coming up.

The Canucks have 22 games left on their schedule, and each one will have to played with a playoff-like mentality if they are going to get into the postseason.

During the same media availability, he also apologized to the media for snapping at them last Sunday, when he called them annoying.

He clarified that pressure from the media has nothing to do with his on-ice struggles as he continued to take accountability for his poor performances.

"I said something I didn't mean, said the media is annoying, which it some days can be, but it's the last thing that's making me play bad or not myself this year."

With any luck, Pettersson and the Canucks as a whole will turn things around soon. If they don't they may very well find themselves heading to the gold courses early this spring.
