The day has started off with a shock in the NHL world as Nashville Predators prospect goalie Yaroslav Askarov has officially demanded a trade. The news of this trade request comes from ESPN insider and former NHLer Kevin Weekes. According to his sources, Yaroslav Askarov wants a trade and will refuse to report to the AHL until he is traded to another organization.

This report is surprising due to the timing but the overall move by Yaroslav Askarov comes as less of a surprise. Earlier this offseason GM Barry Trotz and the Nashville Predators signed starting goalie Juuse Saros to a long-term deal. This has led to a blocked path for Yaroslav Askarov to get significant playing time in the near future.

Yaroslav Askarov should be a hot commodity on the trade market. He was a highly touted prospect in the 2020 NHL Draft going 11th overall. Since then he was incredible in Russia before signing to come to North America. Then in 2022-23, he had a bit of a step back in his first AHL year. However, 2023-24 showed that Yaroslav Askarov was still an incredible prospect when he played 44 games and kept a 2.39 goals against average. At just 22 years old he is one of the best and youngest goalie prospects in the sport and any goalie needy team should be looking to snatch him up.
