A fan in Detroit was getting mistreated by a security guard at the Red Wings-Penguins game, and Sidney Crosby came to the rescue of this poor person. The Penguins took away their first win of the season last night as they defeated the Detroit Red Wings on the road 6-3. It came in great distress after the tough loss that the Penguins received against the New York Rangers 6-0 to open up the season. Captain Sidney Crosby was huge for the win, recording two assists and helping his team get back on track early in the season. It was Detroit's home opener, but while their fans were plentiful, there were a good number of Penguins supporters on hand to see their captain up close.

The plethora of Penguins fans on hand included one lad in a Rimouski Oceanic jersey, a memento from Crosby's junior hockey days playing for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team. He was decked in true blue, venturing into Hockey Town in support of his hero. Unfortunately, it went awry when Detroit's security took the fan's jersey away after he draped it over the tunnel in the hope of catching Crosby's attention. The action did go amiss, but Sidney Crosby, ever the class player with respect to his relations with fans, made sure all was rectified.

Realizing what had happened, Crosby immediately sprang into action. He made sure the staff of the Penguins found the fan and set up a special meeting after the game. Not only did Crosby return the jersey, but he signed it, the ultimate high note to end the night on for the fan, considering how it started. This act actually cemented Crosby's reputation as one who truly appreciated his supporters and was able to turn a sour situation into a memorable one.

Off the ice, Crosby is equally loveable as he is on the ice. The superstar has rightfully earned a reputation for being humble and charitable, though critics seem to continually revisit his on-ice persona, which often comes across as hot-headed. Against the Rangers in the Penguins' season opener, for instance, Crosby was involved in an altercation with rookie Victor Mancini and later accused of unsportsmanlike conduct. But then there are nights like last night in Detroit that really reminds everyone why Crosby remains one of the more respected players in the league.

It was a successful night all around for both the Penguins and the fan with which Sidney Crosby connected. Crosby helped his team win, but more importantly, he sent home one very happy fan with a lifetime memory. Having eight multi-point games in his last 11 outings against the Red Wings, with 46 points overall in 22 games against Detroit, Crosby once more proved to be a force to be dealt with, both on and off the ice.
