The Leafs are coming off an uneventful loss to the lowly Red Wings, and they get right back at it tonight against Buffalo, and Craig Berube could be making changes. Having to go through an exhausting month of December, featuring 15 games, is one thing, but having to play back-to-backs on consecutive weekends is another. Last week, they played a Friday home game against the visiting Washington Capitals before traveling to Pittsburgh for a Saturday showdown with the Penguins, losing both games. Wanting a different story, the Leafs go into this weekend looking at another back-to-back. The Toronto Maple Leafs lost 4-2 to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

They host the Buffalo Sabres at 5 p.m. Sunday at Scotiabank Arena, and with that quick of a turnaround, some lineup changes are possible, according to coach Craig Berube. The coach wants his team to regroup and get ready for the next game. «Well, we've got numbers here, so we're going to look at the lineup for tomorrow and we'll make a couple of decisions,» said head coach Craig Berube. Players approach those challenges differently. Forward Matthew Knies keeps it simple. «Ice bath, protein shake, and get right back after it.» - Matthew Knies

Star winger Mitch Marner, who leads the team in assists (30) and points (40), draws back to his time in junior hockey playing for the London Knights, where playing two games in a row, and sometimes three in a row, wasn't unusual. «(I go) back to junior hockey, I guess. Just try to get as much recovery as you can here tonight,» said Marner after Saturday's loss. «Whatever you want to do, however you want to do it. And then obviously try to get to sleep as quickly as you can when we get home tonight. Kind of do your own things throughout the day tomorrow and just get ready for a game.» The Sabres also enter Sunday's game off a Saturday game, falling by a 4-2 count to the Capitals. That should make for some shared fatigue, which could play into the Leafs' hands, particularly on home ice, where they've won six of seven. Coming off the tough start to another back-to-back, there isn't much time to dwell for the Leafs, with attention shifting to rebounding and grabbing that much-needed win against Buffalo.
