The Mitch Marner debate continues in Toronto as NHL analyst try to predict what will happen with the Maple Leafs superstar. The latest update on Marner comes from former Leaf Carlo Colaiacovo, who shared his thoughts on TSN. He compared Marner to Nylander last season, ultimately implying that the Leafs are more likely to re-sign Marner than anything else, even with all the rumors. This deal is going to be more difficult that people anticipate it to be because its not just trading for Mitch Marner. I don't even think that is a realistic possibility. The difficulty around the trade is the same thing they considered with Nylander last year. No one wanted to pay Nylander 10+ million dollars a year for eight years because they didn't see him as that kind of a player.

He makes some good points. After all, Marner is a very good player, but will other teams around the NHL be willing to pay him what he currently makes, plus a raise? Furthermore, if teams don't think they can extend him, why would they trade for him? One team that may not be concerned though is the Vegas Golden Knights, who have shown a willingness to do shrewd business. A lot of people suspect Vegas will be around Mitch Marner. -Elliotte Friedman

Maple Leafs general Manager Brad Treliving appears to have flip flopped on his stance on Marner over the past couple of months. At times, it has seemed like he was ready to pull the trigger on a trade, but nothing has materialized. Now his latest stance is that he would rather extend him than trade the winger. NHL insider Chris Johnston recently reported that it will be some time before the Leafs settle with Mitch Marner, regardless of the outcome.

With all that being said, it seems like there is still quite a ways to go before we get any closure on the Marner front. Buckle up because this summer is bound to be controversial for the Maple Leafs.
