NHL insider Frank Serravalli proposed that the Toronto Maple Leafs should trade Mitch Marner to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Seth Jones. For starters, Serravalli discussed whether or not it even makes sense for the Leafs to trade Marner. After all, this is one of the best players in the league and he has a full no-move clause. Getting even value in return could be very difficult. That being said, Serravalli is on the side of trading him. You have to spread the wealth around... @frank_seravalli explains why he thinks a Mitch Marner trade makes sense for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He the suggests that the Chicago Blackhawks are an ideal trading partner. They are not in the same conference, so they only face each other twice a year and the Hawks could certainly use an elite talent to pair with Connor Bedard. That being said, the trade proposal Serravalli gives is perhaps a bit ridiculous. He says Marner for Seth Jones 1-for1. Seravalli: One team that makes a ton of sense for me for Mitch Marner, the Chicago Blackhawks. Host: What are the Blackhawks sending back to Toronto? Seravalli: Does Seth Jones interest you at all? Straight up Marner for Jones, who says no? (Big Show)

Most fans are not buying this idea at all. Jones has been a decent defenseman at best and a terrible one at worst. Last season he had 8 goals and 31 points in 67 games while averaging over 25 minutes a night on the 31st-place Blackhawks. Marner on the other hand, had 26 goals and 85 points in just 69 games. Jones does play a more premium position, but does that really make up for the difference on production? Chicago would have to send more back, Jones even though is a good player is not seen as a great player at this point and «always» been on losing teams. He hasn't elevated a team to where he clearly is among that team's top top assets. Though still will just be 30 early season

Furthermore, Jones is on a massive contract that has him locked up until he is 35 years old. He is also nearly three years older than Marner. With all of that in consideration, a 1-for-1 trade would seem like a major loss for the Leafs. So Toronto does Chicago a favor dumping that contract and gives up Marner in return?

That being said, trades in the NHL rarely go how fans think they would. Be sure to stay tuned to see if the Leafs do trade Marner this summer and whether or not the return will be better than a player of Seth Jones' caliber.
