The Winnipeg Jets franchise has just made history, by hitting the 40-win mark before any other NHL team, as well as extending their winning streak to nine games.

The Winnipeg Jets entered the 4 Nations Face-Off break having won eight straight. They took the next two weeks off and then returned against the St. Louis Blues to build on that, winning a shootout on the game-winner from Kyle Connor.

It was two meaningful landmarks: The Jets became the first NHL club to win 40 games and kept their win streak going to nine games, their best mark this season.

It was capped by two scores from Gabe Vilardi, who sent a pair to leave his totals through the campaign with 24 tallies, 27 helpers, and 51 points.

One of those markers came after he was knocked hard, and there was space once he battled off two defenders and was in the slot before Mark Scheifele fed him with a clean backhand saucer pass.

Behind 3-2 late in the game, Vilardi scored once more. With a man advantage on the ice, he stood in front of the net and deflected a point shot past the Blues' goalie, forcing the game into overtime. He closed out yet another outstanding game.

Backup netminder Eric Comrie also did his job, stopping 21 of 24 shots and spurning all three shootout chances.

With Connor Hellebuyck getting some much-needed rest after playing effectively at the 4 Nations Face-Off, Comrie turned in a solid performance to continue letting the Jets roll.
