Nick Robertson has been in headlines all off-season long with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and now the young forward has addressed everything.

This off-season has been full of speculation around young Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson, but after all of the trade interest, he ended up re-signing on a one-year deal with the team. He has impressed mightily in the pre-season, and just weeks after the overwhelming expectation was that he would be traded, he is now in line to earn a spot on the Maple Leafs roster come opening night.

The fans aren't the only ones he's impressed, with Head Coach Craig Berube raving about Robertson's play thus far in the pre-season;

"He did that. It's not even the goals so much as his effort and the way he played. His work ethic was excellent and his competitiveness. He made good decisions with the puck.It was good he got a couple of goals for us."

It appears that all Robertson needed was a clean slate and an opportunity, and with Berube now leading the way, there's a good chance that the 22-year old will now be given an opportunity to build on a solid 2023/24 campaign in limited opportunities. Now, the young forward has opened up on the entire off-season in an interview with The Athletic, discussing his thought process going into the off-season and how he reacted to the new contract.

"I knew something was going to happen," he said. "Would you want an eight-year deal at a lot of money? Yeah. But at the same time, you've got to look in the mirror. With a one-year deal, this is what my agent thought was best. So I just go about my business whether it's a one-, two- or eight-year deal. I'm happy to be back in Toronto. I'm happy the way the deal went. I knew I was going to be back in Toronto. I've learned that how I better myself here is different from how to better myself in junior. I've got to trust that I put in the work and then I enjoy it."

It's unclear if Robertson is here to stay in Toronto, but the way things are shaking out, he may find himself alongside John Tavares and/or Max Pacioretty this season to start things out, and if he excels, don't be shocked if Toronto are lining up to keep him in the middle-six for many years to come next summer.
