Miroslav Holinka didn't last long in Leafs training camp as he was cut early; however, he has gotten himself a massive role with the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Picked in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, going 151st overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs, young prospect Miroslav Holinka joined the roster. Like so many who get picked in later rounds, his time with the big club during training camp didn't last long. Still, Holinka finds himself with an exciting opportunity for growth, one that could serve as a significant stepping stone in his career.

Instead, Holinka will hone his skills this season in the WHL instead of playing hockey in Czechia. In many ways, this is a big jump for him: not only does it get him accustomed to the North American style of play, but it puts him in a very competitive environment as well. Better yet, Holinka will go into the season as the first-line center, considered a great opportunity for the young forward to break through.

Holinka is an interesting prospect, carrying many positive attributes in his game. Already 6'1" and weighing 185 pounds at 18 years old, he has a good size that allows him to be a hard player to compete against in junior while being able to play well defensively, too. Outside of his defensive elements, he has a pretty well-rounded attack, with the ability to both make plays and score goals; he's pretty multifaceted on the ice.

This season in the WHL will provide a far greater insight into his potential against top-flight junior competition. He's off to a flying start, tallying a goal and assisting in his first game on the top line. The pressure is on,but he seems ready to prove that he indeed belongs among the best in his age group.

Moving forward, the Maple Leafs may have a real diamond in Miroslav Holinka, possibly fitting into that middle-six slot in the not-so-distant future. Of course, if he can keep his game trending upwards at the WHL level, he could find himself becoming an impactful player in Toronto down the line, bringing a mix of skill and physicality that helps elevate the depth for the team.
