The Utah Hockey Club has signed Kailer Yamamoto to a professional tryout agreement.

Yamamoto went as a non-tendered restricted free agent with the Seattle Kraken earlier this summer, which in turn made him an unrestricted free agent. The 25-year-old winger played in 59 games with Seattle and tallied 16 points over the course of last season. He was signed for only one year with the team at $1.5 million.

Yamamoto made his rounds with other teams when he was bought out by the Detroit Red Wings in June of 2023 after he was traded to them by the Edmonton Oilers. In 303 career games, Yamamoto has 134 total points (58G, 76A). He was originally drafted by the Oilers in 2007 as the 22nd overall pick. He once did have the chance to play in the top six in the Edmonton lineup, but during his time with the Oilers was bounced around between the NHL and AHL.

It could be that Utah is looking for some late blooming stars in giving Yamamoto a chance to tryout of the team. We will see as training camp starts what his status with the organization will be.
