Today several new reports have come out from Vancouver Canucks President Jim Rutherford where he spoke about the ongoing turmoil in the organization. After former NHL analyst and head coach Don Cherry gave his solution to the Canucks problems yesterday a new interview has surfaced with Canucks President of Hockey Ops Jim Rutherford where he talks about what the team's plan is. The Canucks feud between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson has continued to fester over the last month with the organization insisting that they could figure things out with the current core group. Today that seems to have changed as President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford has spoken to the media and seems to have given up hope on a potential solution.
Jim Rutherford Opens Up About A Potential Rebuild If Conflict Can't Be Resolved
Rutherford spoke to the media today about the issues between Miller and Petterson, admitting that things have not gotten better as they had hoped. This is the first time the team themselves have confirmed an issue between the players in the locker room.

Rutherford took things a step further and said that if they were to trade both Miller and Pettersson that would mean completely starting over which would also include trading captain Quinn Hughes.

As Rutherford mentions this is a situation they are planning to avoid at all costs but at this point the Canucks do not seem to have a handle on how to fix just about anything when it comes to the locker room drama. Hughes is just 25 years old which means he still has plenty of fantastic hockey ahead of him even if the Canucks plan to rebuild trading him makes little to no sense. Hughes is also under contract for two more seasons which means any move sending him elsewhere would involve a blockbuster trade. Rutherford and the Canucks need to get themselves under control and find a clear and confident way forward whether that be with Miller and Pettersson or without. As this situation continues to develop we will bring the latest news to you including the future status of Pettersson, Miller, Hughes, and other key members of the team.
