The Vancouver Canucks have made some shocking roster moves today as they have sent down three players to the AHL including Elias Pettersson. Less than a day after their overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings, the Vancouver Canucks reassigned Elias Pettersson and Victor Mancini along with forward Linus Karlsson to the AHL on Monday morning. Now before everyone panics, it's not the Elias Pettersson you think, as the $92 million forward is still with the NHL club.
The defenseman Elias Pettersson is the one sent down
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Victor Mancini, D Elias Pettersson and F Linus Karlsson have been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL). the Canucks said on X.

These moves likely help the Canucks manage their salary cap leading up to the NHL trade deadline, a strategy they've used all season. If both Quinn Hughes and Carson Soucy return to the lineup, that would leave one extra defenseman, likely Noah Juulsen, as a healthy scratch against the Colorado Avalanche. The bigger concern is at forward. With Karlsson sent down, the Canucks now have just 11 forwards on their active roster and none extra. In advance of their next game, GM Patrik Allvin will reportedly recall at least one of Pettersson or Mancini as well as a forward, perhaps Karlsson, Aatu Raty, or Jonathan Lekkerimaki. Tomorrow, the Canucks have a date with Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche in a 7 PM PT start at Rogers Arena. It will be another challenging test for Rick Tocchet's side as Colorado sits seven points above Vancouver in the race for the Western Conference Wild Card.
