Once again another analyst has decided to call out the Vancouver Canucks players for failing to protect their captain Quinn Hughes. Earlier this week after watching Hughes get pulverized by the Edmonton Oilers insider Elliotte Friedman ripped into the Canucks for a lack of fight when defending Hughes. Since this incident fans and analysts alike have not been happy with the players in the locker room feeling that there is not enough support for their captain. This of course becomes the latest sign of a dysfunctional locker room after the several months of turmoil between Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller. Now former Vancouver Canuck defenseman and current NHL analyst Kevin Bieksa has spoken up about the incident against the Oilers and what it means for the Canucks organization.
Kevin Bieksa rips into the Canucks for failing to defend Quinn Hughes
During the latest installment of Hockey Night in Canada Kevin Bieksa spoke about the incident involving Hughes, his teammates and the Oilers. First Bieksa opened by stating the obvious that Hughes should be one of the untouchable players on the Canucks that if he gets hit someone needs to step up. Quinn Hughes is an untouchable for Vancouver, he's your one untouchable He continues and explains how he would have handled the situation and expected his teammates to defend star players throughout his career. I don't care who you are on the Canucks, when your captain is being treated like that you drop whatever you're doing and you gang tackle whoever that guy is going after him Bieksa then threw the entire Canucks team under the bus for not defending Hughes including the goaltenders. You just don't expect Quinn Hughes to fight or have to even fight that battle, said Bieksa. There's 4 other guys on the ice plus a goalie that's one where everybody jumps in no matter what and you defend your captain.

While it is frustrating that the Canucks have not stepped up and defended Hughes to this point in the season the team does need to continue moving forward and not dwell on one game. With that said the Canucks have to find a way to galvanize the locker room and come together towards the common goal of winning a Stanley Cup. If things do not turn around with this group soon a major change could be coming to shake things up.
