There's a report circulating from THN, that would see a superstar of the Maple Leafs come to Vancouver in the offseason to replace Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller.

Canucks GM Patrik Allvin wishes to build off a potentially missed season, and a top-six winger sits, or nears, at the top of his wishlist for next year, as the hope is to have far less drama next season than what the team has dealt with this year with J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson.

Mitch Marner is a dream target and is linked to the Canucks this offseason

The dream target is Mitch Marner. An incredible playmaker and square scorer with a power play and penalty kill role, consistent 80+ point seasons and 100-point upside, he puts in consistent hard work.

Toronto's 'core four', Auston Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares, and Marner, can break apart at any moment, and in particular, especially if there is a lack of a deep playoff run for another year.

There's a rumor circulating that Marner can go to Vancouver during the offseason in case an extension isn't signed, per 'The Hockey News', but Toronto can still trade him before the deadline to avoid losing him for nothing.

The Leafs will demand a strong return, but an issue comes with Marner's salary picture. With one year at a $10.903 million salary and in a position for a raise, this presumably, makes him a concern for teams.

Vancouver's best-paid player, Elias Pettersson, earns $11.6 million a year, offering a high financial hurdle, so perhaps the team will need to part ways with him in order to bring in Marner.

Some say Marner won't have a big salary boost, but history teaches at least one team will fold and grant him a desire for a big raise.

Ironically, one such location he can settle for a no-change or maybe smaller contract scenario is Toronto, a city in which he's pretty darn clearly communicated that he wants to stay.

Adding to the uncertainty, TSN's Darren Dreger relayed that Leafs GM Brad Treliving prefers to sign Marner over trading him. Whether this is a fact, or a negotiation ploy to drive bids, will have to wait and see.

Either way, if Marner doesn't get traded by the deadline, and if he remains unsigned by July 1st, the floodgates and rumor mill will open, and Vancouver is right there at the top.
