The San Jose Sharks held a press conference today introducing Ryan Warsofsky as the new head coach of the team, but they also touched on the upcoming 2024 NHL draft.

There is a lot of excitement around the Sharks currently, as they hold the 1st overall pick in the draft. As such, they are expected to draft consensus 1st overall pick Macklin Celebrini. A reporter asked Grier about Celebrini, specifically about whether or not the team intends to send him straight to the NHL or if he will be going back to the NCAA instead. His response was quite notable.
Grier says he'll meet with Celebrini and family and representation after Draft to decide if Macklin will come outthen Mike pauses, «Did I say Macklin?»

The Draft isn't until next week

Grier started to answer the question normally when he caught himself talking about the pick. He brought out the dad humor by pretending that the team is even considering anyone else for the pick. If that actually happened, it would be one of the biggest shocks in recent NHL history.
Mike Grier's running dad joke comedy bit where he *accidentally* catches himself confirming Macklin Celebrini to the Sharks will never not be funny.😂

You can see Grier's full response to the question about Celebrini in the post below. New head coach Ryan Warsofsky also chimes in with his thoughts on the decision, which is notable as he has a long history in player development and will be the youngest head coach in the league when he debuts next season.
Grier and Warsofsky on how they will approach Macklin Celebrini's development ... if he's the No. 1 overall selection 😅
