It's scary to learn that the Canadiens have an injured player. After the last two seasons, when injuries were literally dropping like flies, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton made strategic personnel moves to remedy this major problem. A healthy team is expected to start the campaign, even though the team has asked to play six preparatory games instead of eight. Apart from Carey Price, who won't be back, and Christian Dvorak, who is a doubtful case, the players seem ready. Unfortunately, Renaud Lavoie had some bad news for us this morning. Defenseman Chris Wideman may have to miss the start of the season with a back injury. Although Wideman isn't part of the team's long-term plans and won't play many games this season, he's still a good leader to have around the team. Plus, it's never pleasant to learn that a player has been sidelined. This injury is the same one that bothered him towards the end of last season. It reminds us of the Joel Edmundson case. Let's hope for his sake that it doesn't get out of hand and that he's back to 100% soon.
