To say that fans are disappointed with David Reinbacher's selection at #5 overall is a fair representation of the reality of the last 12 hours. Most thought Matvei Michkov was coming to Montreal, but Kent Hughes and his scouting team decided otherwise. However, even if we had the chance to draft a young, generational talent, it's important to find out more about the Austrian defenseman and try to better understand the CH's choice. Éric Faille, a teammate of Reinbacher's in Switzerland, had a lot to say about him. I hope the world in Montreal will calm down a bit and appreciate David for the player he is. I hope the fans will see the big picture, the player he can become. It's just flat to see a young guy like that get drafted in Montreal and get this kind of reaction... According to Faille, his potential is enormous and his progress meteoric. The Canadiens made no mistake with this choice. He's such an underrated player. He's come a long way: we're talking about a guy people saw coming out around the third round last year. Here he is, fifth overall. I've been around him for the last two years and I've seen an incredible progression. At 17-18, he was playing against men and he was our best defender. In my book, the Canadiens didn't make a mistake with their choice. At 18, Reinbacher was driving their team's power play, against men in one of Europe's top leagues. The offensive potential is there. In short, let's wait to see him in action before throwing him under the bus. We can only hope that Kent Hughes didn't make a mistake, because fans have long memories in Montreal.
