Finish hockey Star Sanni Hakala has very likely played her last game after she suffered a serious injury in her last game with HV71 of Sweden's professional women's league, the SDHL.
Sanni Hakala Paralyzed From The Waist Down After Collision With Goal Post
The Finish forward apparently suffered the injury as she was jockeying for net-front position. She ultimately lost her balance and hit the goal post head-first. She ended up laying on the ice motionless for an extended period of time before paramedics stretchered her off the ice. Unfortunately, she seemed to have no feeling from the waist down The HV71 captain was taken to hospital after the nasty accident.

The on-ice medical professionals seemed to determine that she may have been paralyzed from the waist down. Later on, we got an update on her condition from the hospital, confirming that she was unable to move her legs, but was conscious and could move her arms.

Hakala has had quite the career for a 26-year-old. She has 5 medals in international competition including two Olympic bronze medals and she's served as captain of HV71 for each of the last two seasons. She has consistently scored around a point-per-game in her professional career as well. We are all wishing a speedy recovery for Sanni.
