The Edmonton Oilers have just five points through their first 12 games of the 2023-24 season, and while their goaltending isn't the only problem, it's certainly one that needs major improvement.

Jack Campbell speaks on his demotion to the AHL

After another dreadful game against Vancouver, the team placed veteran Jack Campbell on waivers, and unsurprisingly, he wasn't claimed and ultimately ended up with the Bakersfield Condors, the Oilers AHL squad.

He has since made his debut, struggling while giving up four goals on just 20 shots, and now, the veteran has spoken out about the rough time he's had recently.

Pretty tough, not going to lie... I felt like I was playing well, had some confidence, but obviously the numbers weren't good enough

Campbell struggling to live up to the lofty contract expectations

Last summer, Campbell signed a deal with the Oilers worth $5 million AAV, and with that came plenty of expectations, but ultimately, he struggled to live up to it in the 2022-23 campaign, losing the starting role to Stuart Skinner.

Now, he'll look to get hot in the AHL and work his way back to the Oilers, but if not, it's very likely he'll remain with the Condors until the team can find a trade to send the veteran elsewhere.
