New Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer recently held a media session where he announced the resignation of GM Pierre Dorion and voiced his frustration towards the NHL for not disclosing investigations into players Evgeni Dadonov and Shane Pinto during his team's acquisition.
"Why I inherited this is beyond me." Michael Andlauer on the Senators losing a first-round pick for their role in the voided Evgeni Dadonov trade.

Officially, Pierre Dorion has resigned. Steve Staios is the interim GM.

Trouble In Paradise

Andlauer, feeling misled, is now keen on "calming the waters" within the franchise, as put by interim GM Steve Staios. The focus has shifted towards finding a long-term GM to restore stability. Several names have emerged as potential candidates, including former NHL executive Peter Chiarelli, Tampa Bay Lightning assistant GM Mathieu Darche, and former Sens captain Jason Spezza.
"There's been a lot of talk about Peter Chiarelli, but another name I'd throw in there is Tampa Bay director of hockey operations Mathieu Darche. Darche interviewed in Montreal while Andlauer still owned part of the Canadiens, so there is familiarity. Another person suggested Jason Spezza. Teams with legit candidates aren't always willing to give them up in-season. It will be up to Staios, but another possibility is the organization adding a «veteran hockey presence» in a non-GM role. There is going to be a ton of interest, despite the loss of this draft choice. Team is on the way up, Dorion left them far from barren." - Elliotte Friedman, 32 Thoughts

Steve Staios Named Interim GM

Spezza, currently an assistant GM with the Pittsburgh Penguins, is a fan favorite but his managerial inexperience might make the Senators opt for a more seasoned candidate. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman also discusses the possibility of adding a "veteran hockey presence" in a non-GM role to bring more experience into the organization. The unfolding developments indicate a period of restructuring for the Senators aimed at mending relations with the NHL and stabilizing the franchise for future success.
