We all know about Joe Sakic's prolific career. With 1,641 points in 1,378 NHL games, two Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe Trophy, a Hart, a Lady Bing and many other honours, Joe had a special way of approaching games and, in hindsight, his entire career. Kent Hughes used the former Avalanche and Nordiques captain as inspiration for a meaningful speech at the pre-training camp dinner. So Eric Engels of Sportsnet shares this anecdote: « Kent Hughes told the Canadiens at the team's pre-camp dinner that Joe Sakic used to say that he spent the first half of his career trying to establish himself in the NHL and the last half trying to stay there. That seems to have resonated, as every player we talk to continues to mention it. - Eric Engels on Kent Hughes' speech

So the message is clear. Even a star like Joe Sakic didn't take anything for granted, he worked hard to achieve his goals. If this is the new culture at the Habs, we may have some great years ahead.
