The Leafs may just hold the perfect player that a divisional rival could be in desperate need of.

Leafs and Lightning Could Be Perfect Match For Potential Trade

The Tampa Bay Lightning are facing a terrible situation between the pipes right now, with Andrei Vasilevskiy suffering a back injury that resulted in required surgery and being out for 8-10 weeks.

With this news, Tampa could be in the market for a starting goaltender. They do have Jonas Johansson, who was named the starter for their pre-season game against Carolina. He posted a shutout, which should make Tampa faithful take a breath.

However, they might still be in the market for a goaltender to give them some assurances in the position. This is where the Toronto Maple Leafs come in.

Could Martin Jones Be a Good Fit With Tampa?

The Leafs picked up Martin Joans this offseason to be their third goaltender, to give them some more insurance with Ilya Samsonov's injury history.

Jones was incredible last year for the Kraken, arguably saving their season. He went 27-13-3 after starting goalie Phillip Grubauer was sidelined with an injury. During his preseason game with Toronto, Jones made 33 of 34 shots in a 3-1 win over Montreal.

Jones could be the perfect fit for Tampa, as his existing salary fits in the space that the Lightening has. There are few other options that exist for Tampa to secure another goalie before the season starts.
