It is now official with the elimination of the Maple Leafs and Oilers in the second round, the Stanley Cup has not been won by a Canadian team for 30 years, the last time the Canadiens won the Cup was in 1993. What is quite special and raises a lot of suspicion is that 1993 is the year Gary Bettman took office as NHL commissioner. Those 30 years of service also have a very different and much more prestigious meaning. Bettman becomes the longest serving commissioner in the history of the sport in general.

Gary Bettman is the longest-serving commissioner in sports history, serving 30 years with the @NHL🥂

In this week's #SBJ, @Bill_KingSBJ profiles this year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Gary Bettman: https://t.co/5g7ahySwlx pic.twitter.com/JSZH55YTuS- Sports Business Journal (@SBJ) May 16, 2023
In short, he may get booed wherever he goes, but we can say that he must certainly be doing some good things to have lasted this long in the position.
