The NHL Player's association made a major announcement today as they confirmed that they have filed an appeal on behalf of Red Wings winger David Perron for his six-game suspension for cross-checking Artem Zub.
NHLPA Appeals Perron Suspension
One of the main responsibilities of the NHL Player's association is to file appeals for suspensions when players believe they were unfairly punished. Today the organization fulfilled its duties in the case of Red Wings winger David Perron, who received a mammoth six-game sentence for cross Checking Senators defenseman Artem Zub on Saturday.

Today the NHLPA announced that it had officially filed an appeal on behalf of Perron. The NHLPA has filed an appeal on behalf of David Perron regarding the NHL's decision to suspend him for six games.

Allan Walsh, perhaps the most outspoken player agent in the NHL, has expressed his grievances with the league's Department of Player Safety for their inconsistency on this issue.
Walsh Describes Inconsistent Rulings From Department of Player Safety
The agent has been very vocal on X since the decision to suspend Perron for six games went public. The Parros Kangaroo Court suspended for 4 games here. Lost teeth, gushing blood. David Perron suspended 6 games. Artem Zub played the next shift. Farce!

He seems to really love the phrase kangaroo court as he used it several times to describe how the league handles these situations. He also seems to be quite fond of the word farce. The Parros Kangaroo Court suspended here for 3 games. David Perron, 1100 NHL games played without a suspension was banned for 6. No transparency, no consistency, arbitrary, capricious. Farce!

That being said, Walsh's criticisms of the league are reasonable. It is widely accepted by hockey fans and media alike that the league's Department of Player Safety is one of the biggest jokes in the sport. Given the fact that Perron has no history it may be possible that his suspension gets reduced by a couple of games. However, given the well-documented inconsistencies from the league office, no one really knows what might happen. Stay tuned for when the league announces the result of Perron's appeal.
