The Stanley Cup playoffs witnessed a contentious moment on Friday night.

Overtime Goal

In Game 3 of the first round Stanley Cup playoff series between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings, Trevor Moore scored an overtime goal.

The real problem was not Moore's goal but the game apparently should have been halted before the goal. In fact, multiple slow motion and close-up replays suggested that.

NHL ruled the goal as valid

After NHL ruled the goal as valid, Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft, known for his composed demeanor, expressed his disappointment with the league's call post-game.

He began by referring to Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid

"It's a play where the greatest player in the world is two feet away"

He continued by saying :

"His arm comes straight up in the air because he knows it hit the stick, otherwise he wouldn't put his arm up in the air... he would keep playing."

Woodcroft also referred to the slow-motion replays :

"It appears to me in the video that the puck is going straight up in a trajectory and deadens, in the end I'm going to go with the greatest player in the world who was three feet away"

These slow-motion replays, which seem to show evidence of a high stick that should have stopped the play are clearly enough for Woodcroft to show a big disappointment with the decision taken.

As Read on HockeyFeed - Jay Woodcroft sounds off the NHL's controversial goal call.
